Squash and stretch

Squash and Stretch is a common animation technique that is basically, what the name suggests. The squashing and stretching of a character walking to add motion to it (step by step). The squash and stretch of machinery working. It is also used to add a bit more motion and cartoonish feeling to the animation.

Altough this kind of technique can be used in comics or still cartoon art. for a better understanding of animation techniques please reffer to the "animators survival kit" book. For examples of this particular technique applied to comic art, look out for works by the artist "Will Eisner".
