Salamaua

   

Salamaua is a small town situated on the northeastern coastline of Papua New Guinea. The settlement is built on a minor peninsula with mountains on the inland side and a harbor facing the western side of the Huon Gulf. The city was captured by the Japanese in 1942 during World War 2 and later retaken by United States forces lead by General Douglas MacArthur on September 15, 1943.
