The spiny bandicoot is small and brown with different shades. A black stripe from nose to ears is common. They are 8 to 20 inches long and can weigh up to 4 1/2 pounds. The spiny bandicoot is very common on the islands of New Guinea and New Zealand. They like to sleep in hollow logs, piles of leaves, or burrows. The spiny bandicoot eats fruits and grubs and beetles. Spiny bandicoots can have up to 2 babies. Scientists don’t know much about them because they are nocturnal and are so rare.
