Port Moresby

   

id:Port Moresbyja:ポートモレスビー de:Port Moresby Port Moresby, population 193,242 (1990), is the capital of Papua New Guinea. The city is located on the Gulf of Papua. Rubber, gold, and copra are the main exports.

Port Moresby was discovered by Captain John Moresby, who arrived in the area in 1873. The British founded the city in 1883. During World War II an important Allied base was located at Port Moresby.

Port Moresby refers to both the urbanized area of the National Capital District and more specifically, the main business area. Other neighborhoods of Port Moresby are: Koki, Newtown, Konedobu, Kaevaga, Badili, Gabutu, Kila, Matirogo, Three Mile, Kaugere, Sabama, Korobosea, Four Mile, Hohola, Hohola North, Boroko, Gordon, Gordon North, Erima, Saraga, Waigani, Morata and Gerehu.
