Padishah

‘Padishah’ is the Turkish form of the Persian word ‘Padsha,’ a title for Emperor, King or Chief ruler and applied to ‘Sultan’ of Turkey during Ottoman period. The word 'Badishah' (pronounced Baadshah) was also used by Great Moguls of Delhi (India) from 12th century onward. This slight twist could be influence of Arabic language where ‘P’ is equivalent to ‘B’ or ‘F’. Also in India, in Sikh holy books the word ‘Patsha’ has been referred to their spiritual Gurus or teachers.
