Open Gaming License

The Open Gaming License (also Open Game License or OGL) is an open content license designed for games and especially role-playing game rules that was created by Wizards of the Coast in 2000. It has been most famously used for the d20 System rules of Dungeons & Dragons 3rd edition.

Many criticesed the licence since it gave Wizards of the Coast special rights others didn't have, something that resulted in the creation of the October Open Game License (OOGL) but OOGL was later abandoned in favour of Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license.

The Open Gaming License has spawned the concept of open gaming.
