Okrug

Okrug is a term to denote administrative subdivision in some Slavic states. Its etymology is similar to German Kreis, circle (in the meaning of administrative division) (although translated in German as Bezirk): okrug is literally something "encircling".

In subdivisions of Serbia, the term is translated as district, sometimes as county, see Internal structure of Serbia and Montenegro, Districts of Serbia.
In Subdivisions of Russia it is translated as district, for three different levels of subdivision:
- Federal District for federalny okrug, as in Siberian Federal District.
- Autonomous district for avtonomny okrug, as in Koryakia Autonomous District.
- Rural district for selsky okrug, as in Dondukovsky Rural District of Adygeya.
