Nashville metropolitan area
The Nashville Metropolitan Area, or Nashville Metropolitan Statistical Area is the largest metropolitan area centered in the U.S. State of Tennessee, encompassing its north central section. It is typically defined as the area including the following counties:
- Davidson
- Cheatham
- Dickson
- Robertson
- Sumner
- Wilson
- Williamson
- Rutherford County is adjacent to Nashville and therefore usually considered part of the area, though the growth of the city of Murfreesboro led the U.S. Census Bureau to declare it a separate metropolitan area for statistical purposes.
The total population of the first seven counties, by the 2000 Census, is 1,049,288, over a total area of 3481 square miles (9,016 km²).
