Manto Tshabala-Msimang
Dr. Manto Tshabalala-Msimang is Health Minister of South Africa under the government of Thabo Mbeki from 1994 to 1999. She was Foreign minister for a short time, and returned as Health Minister from 2000 to (Aug 2004).
She graduated from Fort Hare University.
Her second term in office has been controversial regarding AIDS and anti-retroviral treatments, her prioritisation of these issues, and her dissident outlook around AIDS in Africa.
A frequent opponent of hers has been the Treatment Action Campaign, and leader Zackie Achmat, who accuse the government of inaction in the face of an AIDS epidemic.
