Larvacea, also called appendicularians, are urochordates which retain the larval form into adulthood. They are small planktonic filter feeders, and regularly build a "house" which gets bigger until they cast it off and build a new one. They look like tadpoles with the head mounted at right angles to the tail, which retains the notochord.
