Border Defence Corps

Border Defence Corps (Polish Korpus Ochrony Pogranicza, KOP) was a Polish military unit created in 1924 for defence of the eastern border against armed Soviet raids and local bandits.

Although the unit was part of the Polish Army, it was commanded directly by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. It was composed of elite soldiers from all parts of the country. Initially KOP consisted of 6 brigades and 5 regiments, each of them guarding part of the border with Soviet Russia.
