Korn

Korn (usually written as "KoЯn") is a heavy metal band from Bakersfield, California, United States. They originally formed as LAPD, which consisted of all the members apart from singer Jonathan Davis. When he joined the band in 1993, they changed their name to Korn, releasing their debut album Korn in October 1994.
Korn are often cited as inspiring the wave of so-called nu metal bands in the late 1990's and early 2000's; they gave signifigant boosts to Limp Bizkit and Deftones.
Davis' distinctive singing--often a series of grunts, whines and bizarre scats--and his lyrics, are inspired in part by his alleged abuse by an unnamed party. The group's music is a blend of pounding, tribal drums and loud, distorted seven-string guitars, and has gained the band a great deal of popularity throughout the years.
As of 2004, the group have remained successful: Korn recently released a greatest hits album, with two cover versions as singles. The first single is a cover of Cameo's 1980s hit, "Word Up." The other is a cover of Pink Floyd's "Another Brick in the Wall."
Some critics argue the band has progressed little, however, using and reusing the same lyrical themes and riffs. A review of Untouchables notes Davis' "wide palette" of vocal techniques, but contends the "only problem with Davis is his lyrics, which tend to fall into the 'am I going crazy' trap that many of Korn's contemporaries perpetuate." Korn recently announced they will work on their 7th album early 2004 and have it released by fall 2004. Jonathan Davis has said they will experiment with guitar solos and longer song structures. They've also departed from Epic Records after the release of the greatest hit's album.
