Kender

The fictional Kender race from the Dragonlance series are about 4 feet tall and are very mischievous. They have a special weapon called a hoopak which is like a staff sling.

One Kender who is a major character in Dragonlance is "Tas" or Tasslehoff Burfoot, who takes great offence at being called a thief, no matter how often he "borrows" things subconsciously.

The Kender are said to be of the same line as Gnomes and Dwarves. After seeking a magical gem, those of that father race of halflings that wanted the gem for greed were turned into Dwarves, those who wanted it to invent with it were turned into Gnomes, and those who wanted it for curiosity were turned into Kender.

A sub-breed of Kender called Vampire Kender can be found in Ravenloft, the results of Lord Soth's twisted experimentation.
