In History of Spain, junta ("coming-together") was the name chosen by several local administrations forming in Spain during the Peninsula War as a patriotic alternative to the official administration topped by the French invaders. In Spanish America, the Creole juntas were formally loyal to Ferdinand VII of Spain, but in the power void, they became actually independent, preparing the independence of Spanish America. Today the Juntas are remembered in the autonomous governments of Spain
