Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde

The Society for the Friends of Music was founded in 1812 by Joseph von Sonnleithner, the Secretary for Court Theatre in Vienna. Its official charter, drafted in 1814, states that the purpose of the Society was to promote music in all its facets.

Of note to the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde is its founding of Vienna's Conservatory and first public concert hall.
